NFL Stock Watch 2025: Teams to Buy and Sell Before the Season

With OTAs underway and rosters starting to take shape, it’s time to make some early calls on which teams are trending in the right direction — and which might be headed for a letdown. Here's a look at four NFL franchises whose stock I'm buying or selling heading into the 2025 season

NFL STOCK WATCH:

📉 Selling: Detroit Lions

Jameson Williams Lions fall

Detroit was the NFC’s No. 1 seed in 2024, but a shocking Divisional Round loss to Washington exposed cracks in their foundation. This offseason, those cracks widened. The Lions lost both offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, two key figures of their rise. To me, Johnson’s departure is especially concerning; his creative play design played a major role in maximizing Jared Goff and the offense. Without him, expect a dip in production. Defensively, the unit remains inconsistent, and with Green Bay and Chicago on the rise, Detroit could find itself in a tougher fight just to make the playoffs.

📈 Buying: Atlanta Falcons

Kyle Pitts Falcons rise

Michael Penix Jr. enters Year 2 poised to take a big step forward. He showed flashes of high-end talent as a rookie, and the Falcons built smartly around him this offseason. They added two defensive studs in Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. through the draft, while Leonard Floyd and Morgan Fox provide veteran depth up front. With the NFC South still wide open and Penix progressing, Atlanta has a clear path to the division crown — and more.

📈 Buying: Las Vegas Raiders

Maxx Crosby Raiders rise

Vegas is building something real. The addition of Geno Smith gives them steady quarterback play, and Ashton Jeanty adds explosiveness to the backfield. Their defense was already a top-tier unit in 2024, and keeping Maxx Crosby in-house only reinforces that strength. Most importantly, Pete Carroll brings leadership and culture — two things this team sorely needed. Don’t be surprised if the Raiders push for a Wild Card spot.

📉 Selling: Los Angeles Rams

Matthew Stafford Rams fall

The Rams still have talent, but they’re entering 2025 slightly overrated. Davante Adams was a big acquisition and helps offset the loss of Cooper Kupp, but beyond that, the offseason lacked punch. Stafford is aging, durability is a concern, and the run defense continues to be a weak point. In an NFC West that includes the 49ers and an improving Seahawks team, Los Angeles could struggle to keep pace. They’ll be competitive, but a deep playoff run feels unlikely.
