The NFL Honors are near and I will be giving out my awards. I will have some awards that I made up, as well as the awards that will be handed out at the NFL Honors presentation.
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Garrett Wilson
For this award, I have Garrett Wilson winning it. He has put up very good numbers and has stayed healthy all season. He established himself as the Jets WR1, and he will be a very good receiver for the next few years. I could see Walker or Olave winning it, but they both had injuries and were out for a few games.
Defensive Rookie of the Year: Sauce Gardner
Sauce had one of the best rookie seasons ever as a cornerback. The only real competition here for DROTY is Tariq Woolen, who I actually think had a better season. If I were voting , I would give it to Tariq Woolen, but ultimately, I think Sauce will win the award.
Coach of the Year: Brian Daboll
For this award, I have Brian Daboll winning it. He turned a Giants team who wasn't expected to get over 5 wins to a team that made it to the divisional round. There are many coaches who coached a team to a better record, but none had as bad of a roster as Daboll had. He is the clear pick for Coach of the Year.
Defensive Player of the Year: Nick Bosa
For Defensive Player of the Year, I have Nick Bosa. The only other real contender is Micah Parsons, who has also had a phenomenal year. But, to me, Bosa should win this award because of the impact he had in the second half of the season. I wouldn't be surprised if Parsons won, but I think Bosa deserves it.
Offensive Player of the Year: Justin Jefferson
For Offensive Player of the Year, I have Justin Jefferson. This one to me is not really a debate. The only person that would come close is Tyreek Hill. But, Jefferson led the league in receiving yards with 1800 yards, so I would definitely choose him for Offensive Player of the Year.
Comeback Player of the Year: Geno Smith
This one is not even a close debate. Geno went from being labeled as a bust and one of the worst starting QBs to being a Top-10 QB and an established starter. Everybody wrote him off, but he didn't write back.
Surprise Team of the Year: New York Giants
This one is a close one between the Seahawks and the Giants. But, I think the Giants deserve this one since they went further in the playoffs. The Giants went from a team with no expectations to a very good team who eliminated one of the best teams in the NFC.
Most Disappointing Team of the Year: Los Angeles Rams
For the most disappointing team of the year, I'm giving it to the Los Angeles Rams. They played bad from start to finish and they could not find a way to win close games. The were flooded with injuries and had to go through many Quarterbacks, one of who was Baker Mayfield. The Rams were definitely the clear winner for this award.
Most Improved Team of the Year: Jacksonville Jaguars
For the most improved team, I have the Jacksonville Jaguars. They went from having back to back Number 1 picks, to making the divisional round and almost beating the Chiefs. Trevor Lawrence really stepped up and made big plays, and their defense came in very clutch when needed to. In my eyes, they are the clear winner for this award.
Catch of the Year: Justin Jefferson catch on 4th and 18 against the Bills
For the Catch of the Year, I have Justin Jefferson's catch against the Bills in Week 10. It was a very difficult catch , and it was on 4th and 18. Had he not made this catch, the Vikings would have lost. There were many other very good catches in this season, but none of them measure up to the catch and the situation of this Justin Jefferson play.
Craziest Play of the Year: Chandler Jones game-winner against Patriots
This one is not a debate. This was probably the craziest play of the whole decade. With a tie game, Chandler Jones intercepted a lateral, stiff-armed Mac Jones, and then ran it all the way into the endzone for the win. The only other play I can even think of that comes close to this is the Tyreek Hill scoop and score from the fumble. But, even that does not come close to this play.
Game of the Year: Week 10: Bills v Vikings
For the Game of the Year, I have the Bills v Vikings. This game was so unpredictable. Whenever we thought the game was over, some miraculous play would happen to get the other team back into the game. The game went into overtime and was sealed with an interception. This was definitely the best game of the year.
Best Touchdown Celebration: Mike Gesicki Griddy v Vikings
For the Celebration of the Year, I have Mike Gesicki's griddy against the Vikings. There's not much to say here. It was a horrible griddy, but it was very funny for the people watching. He even left the announcers speechless after he did his dance.
Most Valuable Player: Patrick Mahomes
And now, finally, I have Patrick Mahomes as the MVP. Mahomes has put up insane numbers and has led the Chiefs to the Number 1 Seed, and now the Super Bowl. He has been the best QB this year, so he definitely deserves MVP.
